Reflections on the chaplaincy
I was honored to be invited by Bishop Carlos López of the Anglican/Episcopal Reformed Church of Spain and Canon Nancy Mead, president of the Friends of the Anglican Pilgrim Centre, to be the Chaplain for 3 months in Santiago de Compostela. I served as Chaplain at La Casa Anglicana del Peregrino and Santa Susana Church from April to June 2024. It was a pleasure and privilege to serve.
May 2024: Expanding Our Mission
It has always been our intention to be more than a “hotel for pilgrims” arriving in Santiago. While we want to give any guest who spends time with us the best possible experience, as our mission states, we strive to offer more than hospitality. We want to be an ecumenical place that offers healing, hope, learning and love. In recent weeks, we have made progress both on the ecumenical front and in the ministry of healing, hope and love.
Holy Week 2024 greetings from Nancy Mead, President
Holy Week, known as Semana Santa in Spain, holds a special place in my heart. It was on my first Camino that I came to know and love this ancient and unique Spanish tradition. Twenty four years ago on this day, I attended the Palm Sunday Mass and procession at the monastery in Roncesvalles.
Casa Anglicana Became Ours
Since my first time on the Camino in 2019, I have watched the inspiring work of the Friends of the Anglican Pilgrim Center. In 2023, years of work and prayer, vision, and tenacity brought the Center into being. And I became, just by the luck of timing, the first priest to preside over the Eucharist at Casa Anglicana.
Bishop Carlos Reports on Casa Anglicana
I write to share with you the exciting report from Bishop Carlos López Lozano, Bishop of the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church (IERE) in Spain. His report shares an overview of August 2023 through November 2023 at Casa Anglicana, the Anglican Pilgrim House in Santiago de Compostela.
A Video from Casa Anglicana
Greetings from Rhode Island. Board member Edie Morrill and I have just returned from an amazing walk on the Camino Portuguese Route with a group spanning four decades in age. The 82-year-old in our group was an inspiration to us all. Several people said to themselves, “If Carol can do it, so can I.” You’ll be hearing more about our trip on future blogs.
