A new ecumenical agreement

The Catholic Church and the Reformed Episcopal Church Sign Historic Agreement in Santiago

Covenant of Collaboration between the Catholic Church
and the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church

In a significant step towards strengthening ecumenical dialogue, the Roman Catholic Diocese of Santiago and the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church have signed a covenant of collaboration with the purpose of promoting coexistence and strengthening the ties between both Christian groups.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday by Monsignor Francisco José Prieto Fernández, Archbishop of Santiago de Compostela and the Right Reverend Right Reverend Carlos López Lozano, Bishop of the Spanish Reformed Episcopal Church. The churches have recognized one another as “sister churches,” marking a milestone in interfaith relationships in Spain.

One of the key points of the agreement is the use of the Church of San Félix de Solovio for the celebration of the liturgical services of the Reformed Episcopal community in Santiago de Compostela. This measure provides access to religious services for the faithful who reside in Santiago or those who visit as pilgrims.

The Archdiocese of Santiago underscores that this agreement follows the framework of the guidelines of Vatican II concerning ecumenism, reinforcing the spirit of openness and cooperation promoted by the Episcopal Delegation for Ecumenism and Ecumenical Dialogue.
